Nemesis

From a grainy footage, a bank robbery was recorded showing the robber taking a cashier as hostage. Instructing them to hand over the money, he lets the cashier count to twenty five. Taking too long to hand over the money, the robber decides to kill the cashier, take the money worth two million Norwegian kroner, and disappear to thin air.

With his girlfriend and her son in Russia fighting over a legal battle, Harry Hole is invited by his ex-lover, Anna Bethsen, over to dinner. Harry wakes up the next day with a muddled memory of the past twelve hours, and a seemingly bad hangover. As police finds the body of Anna Bethsen, shot dead the same night that they were together, Harry is caught in the middle of all the chaos. Harry suddenly starts receiving threatening e-mails, implicating his involvement in Anna's death, and dragging him down with his vulnerability. As he tries to  solve the case and gather details on his own, the robberies multiply along with the death toll, and his archenemy, Tom Waaler, makes a move to lead the investigation that would put Harry in a desperate position. Seeking a way of absolving himself, Harry turns to the aid of an infamous criminal; which would be the link to the surmounting crime surrounding him.

A cut throat competition could be seen in the book as we see that Tom Waaler is trying to chase Harry away from his tail, knowing that Harry could be inches behind him and could easily catch up if he makes the wrong turn, as well as putting Harry away for good. With desperation tugging at the seams, Nemesis is heavy with answers waiting to be discovered and an enlightenment to the events that would slowly reveal itself. With the readers questioning the credibility of Harry, the revelations would shed a conclusion  with a bang.
